Equipment you need to make lemonade

You’ll need the following utensils to make this drink:

  • Lemon juicer
  • Medium pan
  • Large spoon
  • Jug or pitcher
  • Grater or zester
  • Sieve or strainer

Lemonade ingredients

Thankfully, the ingredients to make this drink are simple and easy to find. You’ll need:

  1. Lemons – they’re the star of the show! we’d recommend unwaxed lemons as we’ll be using the zest, therefore avoiding any nasty chemicals in your lemonade.
  2. Sugar – this will give us lovely sweetness. Any sugar is fine, we use caster sugar as it dissolves quicker.
  3. Water – don’t forget the H20! This drink is all about the lemon, so you’ll need a lot of water to dilute it (unless you want it super sour!) We’ll definitely need some hot still water in the beginning, but you can top it up with still or sparkling depending on your preference.
  4. Lemon zest – for a fabulous zesty kick!
  5. Optional extras – feel free to add lemon slices or mint leaves for a lovely garnish.

How to make lemonade

Make a syrup

Firstly, Add the sugar, hot water and zest to the pan. Heat on medium heat until the sugar has dissolved. Stir the pan to ensure the sugar has fully dissolved. Remove pan from heat and allow lemonade mixture to cool completely – you can place it in a fridge to make it cool faster.

Juice the lemons

While the syrup cools, juice your lemons in the meantime. We recommend using a lemon juicer – make sure you squeeze every drop of delicious juice from those lemons! Once you’ve juiced all the lemons, pour the juice into a jug. Strain the juice if you wish to remove the pulp.

Add the syrup to the juice

Thirdly, pour the cooled syrup into the jug containing the lemon juice and stir it well with a large spoon.

Top up with water

Finally, add water to the lemonade. You can use cold still water or sparkling water depending on what you prefer. After that, give it a good stir and place the lemonade in the fridge to cool. Serve chilled – enjoy with ice cubes and garnishes of your choice.

Should the lemonade be stored in the fridge?

Yes, we recommend keeping it chilled in the fridge to make it last longer.

How long does the lemonade last?

This lemonade typically lasts around 5-7 days. However, the exact time depends on how it’s stored and what it’s stored in.

Can the lemonade be frozen?

Yes, you can freeze it and save it for a later date, or you can pour it into popsicle moulds and enjoy it as a frozen treat!

What should the lemonade be stored in?

You can store it in a bottle, jug, jar, or container. Whatever option you choose, we recommend it’s kept sealed with a lid or cover, and the glassware is sterilized.
